R014: WHAT IF YOU FOUND OUT YOU WERE ADOPTED
Amani with the Carries
Amani was called into the study one sunny afternoon—an afternoon so dry that leaves cringed like tentacles of snails after being touched… In the room were three pairs of eyeballs slowly burying themselves under fine long lashes although one eyeball was firmly fixed on Amani like an immovable statue.
Amani gradually broke the ice with the screechy sound of a lonely long stool leaning helplessly against a door after minutes of the melancholic setting. Now sitting, he began, what’s up fam? I got a call and it sounded rather urgent, what’s going on? Tricia tried responding, “I… just…” but Noni, the boldest broke in, “hey, how’s school and the big deal?” Amani, all pumped and hip chipped in, “well we good, you know how it is”. Amani continued, so what’s up with the graveyard looks? George, the “the firm eyeballer” then threw it all out like one sick with a vomit—‘You are 25 now and deserve to know that you aren’t connected to us by blood but hey, it doesn’t stop our love for you neither does it hinder your benefits just like any other child in this house, you got that?
It is a Lie!
Amani on the other end of the room went from leaning forward in eagerness to hear of whatever gist there was to seating up straight; with not-so-droopy countenance and finally turning Tricia by her shoulder to say, “girl, it’s a lie, I’m blood and that’s it”…
This week, I decided to get on the streets, asking people how they’d react having heard that they were under complete adopted care! Thanks and no thanks to many life situations, the responses came with mixed feelings, some good, some disappointing but I won’t spill just yet; listen for yourself!
